엄마는 새벽 도시에 앉아 밭고랑 열매를 나누다가

가녀린 뱃속으로

살아 가야하는

삶을 삼키고 있다

이를 지켜보던

아버지는 살아온

일생의 자국걸음으로 의자에 걸터 앉아

생노 걸음을 풀어내듯

일생의 밭고랑 은혜로 딸의 우산을 위안해서

담배 한모금의 연기벗

에서 숨터를 삼고는

태어나 걸어온

갈래길로 부모의 은덕에

탄생을 감사드린다

The Furrows of a Lifetime

Mother sits in the dawn of the city, sorting the fruits of the furrows,
into her fragile belly
she swallows down the life
she must somehow live on.

Watching this,
Father, with the scarred-pace of a lifetime lived,
perches upon a chair.
As if unspooling his life-weary strides,
he comforts his daughter’s umbrella with the grace of those lifelong furrows,
and in the smoke-friend of a single drag of a cigarette,
from within that haze, he carves out a breath-haven.

Looking back at the diverging paths
I have walked since birth,
I offer my deepest gratitude for the grace of my parents,
giving thanks for the very dawn of my life.

[Critique] The Sublime Aesthetics of Salvation Reached Through Defamiliarized Language

Refusing slick, rhetorical playfulness, this poem plots a dramatic inversion by hurling rustic, indigenous poetic dictions—such as ‘Batgorang’ (furrows), ‘Saengno-geoleum’ (the stride of living and aging), and ‘Yeongibeot’ (smoke-friend)—right into the heart of a sophisticated city. Through the raw impact of this untamed language, the poem forcefully engraves the grace of parents and the sublimity of birth into the reader's consciousness.
